Suicide Prevention for K-12 Youth

Growing up can feel overwhelming at times. School pressures, friendships, family changes, and social media can create emotions that feel difficult to manage. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for youth ages 10–14, and nearly 1 in 5 high school students report seriously considering suicide (CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey).

Experiencing thoughts of suicide can feel isolating, but it does not mean a situation cannot improve. With understanding, guidance, and access to care, young people can find healthier ways to cope and move forward. Genesee Health System (GHS) offers behavioral health services for youth and families, including therapy, crisis care, and supportive programs designed to address emotional and mental health needs.

Support for Youth and Families

Children and teens experiencing emotional distress often rely on trusted adults to help them access care. Parents, guardians, caregivers, and school staff can play an important role in recognizing when a young person may be struggling and helping them connect with the right support.

GHS provides family-centered behavioral health services that help youth and their families navigate challenges and build skills for long-term well-being.
